Zeitenwende (Turning of an Era)

Zeitenwende is based on impressions from a summer hike through a partially cleared forest and the visible transformation of ecological landscapes in Germany.

The starting point of the work was the experience of walking through a forest that felt simultaneously alive and damaged. Between cleared areas, remaining clusters of trees, and newly emerging structures, a sense of witnessing a state of transition arose. The forest appeared not as a static landscape, but as a vulnerable organism responding to changing environmental conditions.

This experience is translated into a tufted textile surface in which loss, fragmentation, and density become simultaneously visible. Inspired by bark, lichens, mosses, and fungi, a multi-layered structure emerges, narrating the interplay of different life forms. The individual elements do not stand in isolation, but rather form a complex web of mutual interdependencies.

The work predominantly utilizes surplus or damaged virgin wool from German manufactures. The choice of material is an integral part of the conceptual approach, serving as a conscious engagement with resources and ecological cycles.

Zeitenwende is an attempt to make ecological shifts not only visible but physically tangible. The work invites the viewer to perceive landscape as something vulnerable, whose balance cannot be taken for granted.
