Opuntia translates the prickly pear landscape of southern Italy into a textile topography made of a tufted surface.<\/p>\n
The work arises from perceiving the prickly pear as an everyday yet culturally charged plant in the Mediterranean region \u2013 a plant that grows on borderlands, forms protection, and survives under harsh conditions. In the landscapes of my childhood, it was omnipresent: along roads, between dry-stone walls, and on wasteland. Its presence was taken for granted, yet it left a lasting impression.<\/p>\n
These qualities are translated into a relief-like textile structure composed of color, density, and height. Between shades of yellow, violet, and orange, a surface emerges that evokes growth, maturity, and sun-drenched landscapes. The plant's characteristic densities appear as textile elevations that oscillate between image and object.<\/p>\n
I am less interested in a botanical representation than in the question of how landscape inscribes itself into the body and memory. The work conceives landscape as something that is not merely seen, but physically remembered and felt.
